Our health services research agenda
relies on our experience with and knowledge of
large sets of public and private clinical, claims,
and pharmaceutical data, and on our ability to
quickly develop custom
databases unique to specific research questions.
We investigate the following conditions and their
interrelationships with each other:
Anemia
An inadequate supply of red blood cells or hemoglobin
reduces the blood’s ability to transfer
oxygen to the tissues, and is a common symptom
of ESRD and CKD.
Cardiovascular Disease
Heart disease is a leading cause of death in
the United States, especially among CKD and
ERSD patients, who also show the risk factors
of hypertension and diabetes.
CKD
Chronic kidney disease is a condition in which
the kidneys gradually or suddenly lose their ability
to remove waste and maintain fluid and chemical
balances in the body.
Dementia
Progressive impairment of brain function, including
memory, comprehension, reasoning ability, judgment,
and organizational skills, is a complication
of ESRD.
Diabetes
Diabetes, a condition of impaired ability to
metabolize carbohydrates, protein, and fat,
is both a complication of kidney disease and
a risk factor for ESRD and heart disease.
ESRD
End-stage renal disease is a condition of severe
kidney failure that requires transplantation
or ongoing renal replacement therapy (dialysis)
to sustain life.
We regularly publish
our findings on these and other chronic conditions
in peer reviewed journals, and present
them at national and international meetings. We
create project-specific data
reports to interpret and summarize our findings
for our sponsors and clients. |
